STUFF YOUR DANCE WITH DEXTERITY BY CYPHERS AND A NEW ERA OF "SUNDAY CYPHERS "IN CHHATTISGARH
Are you trying to continue growing as a dancer and really learn to apply some of those dance moves you have learnt in dance classes. It can be scary to take the next step after learning dance moves by actually applying them in a battle or cypher. If you are at this awkward point in your dance journey, don’t worry we have all been there. Therefore, we have a solution to help you take the next step in freestyle development and that next step is to start freestyling in dance cyphers. If you are thinking to yourself “I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of everyone”, you need to take the first step and accept that you may embarrass yourself in your first cypher. But remember messing up in your first cypher is normal and it happens to everyone but you need to understand that every time you dance in a cypher you are improving, even if it doesn’t feel like it. In addition, here are 4 reasons why dance cyphers are important for dance development.
1. Freestyle-
Being able to dance to choreography is one thing but being able to apply the fundamentals that you have learnt to an actual freestyle is a whole new game. Freestyling tests your ability to fully understand the fundamentals of a dance style and forces you to think on your feet. Freestyling helps you apply basic dance moves because it makes you practice and develop musicality, endurance, vision(story telling) and dynamics.
2. Confidence-
Even if you are a new dancer it is important to let loose and freestyle once in a while, even if it is in the comfort of your own home. Freestyling will allow you to explore your dance knowledge, feel your moves and experiment. While all of this is taking place you are also building your confidence because you will be more open to your style and performing it in front of others. If you have ever stepped into a cypher you will know that once you finish dancing you will feel extremely confident because you applied your dance knowledge to random songs, showcased your own style and gained a reputation for yourself.
3. Adaptability-
A dance cypher can teach you a dance skill that you can’t learn without freestyling in front of people. Cyphers teach you how to “feel the crowd “, which helps you adapt your freestyle to the way an audience is reacting. For example, if you are dancing in a cypher and do a wave and the crowd cheers, you will realize that adjusting your freestyle to incorporate more waves will create a more positive responses from the audience. It is common for dancers to adjust their freestyle based on the crowd’s reaction in order give the crowd more of what they want to see.
4. Creativity-
It is important to understand that freestyling allows dancers to ignore everything that they have learnt in choreography and really clear there mind and just dance. Freestyling forces a dancer to think outside of the box and be creative enough to perform dance moves in a succession that has never been done before. Originality in a cypher is key as it helps define you as a dancer because you can tell your audience a story, showcase your personality and articulate your interpretation of the music playing.

Freestyling helps showcase a dancers personality and emotions from their point of view. Although it takes time to overcome the pressure and intensity of dancing in a cypher, it is a important step for every dancer to take on their journey.

Sunday cyphers in Chhattisgarh
A new era of dancing has begun in Chhattisgarh by bringing the street styles (like locking,popping,krumping,breaking etc)on the streets .This is the way real street dance culture started in the early 90s. Now the street flava is rigorously spreading all around the state. Bhilai and Raipur are the two cities where every sunday different styles of dancers meet and do cyphers on the streets.In this way they can get to know their flaws and improve their dance skills with chutzpa."STREET FLEVA" aka "STREET LIVELINESS"is a dance community in Bhilai which is promoting these styles and spreading awareness about cyphers in Chhattisgarh.Street fleva has organised various jams like funk in a trunk,dwandh1 and dwandh 2.Now the dancers who are masters in these styles have started travelling to Chhattisgarh to spread the culture and awareness among dancers by giving workshops.Special thanks to those dancers who are giving free classes to the dancers who are aspiring to master these styles.At last, I urge all the aspiring "cypherholics " to attend cyphers and burgeon their dancing skills.
